Legal Aid for Blast Victims
Seeking Justice and Accountability
The Need The August 4, 2020, explosion in Beirut resulted in catastrophic loss of life, widespread trauma, and the destruction of thousands of homes. In the aftermath, many victims found themselves without the resources or guidance necessary to navigate the complex legal challenges required to seek justice and assert their rights.
Our Action The Mounzer Foundation, led by Dr. Marie Ghantous, PhD, launched a dedicated initiative to provide pro-bono legal aid to those affected by the tragedy. By partnering with the Human Rights Legal Clinic at University La Sagesse, we connected victims with legal expertise to ensure their voices were heard and their rights were protected.
The Impact Our initiative provided essential legal counsel to those who could not afford representation. In the summer of 2021, we were honored to recognize and celebrate the dedication of the many law students who volunteered their research and time to support these victims, providing them with a path toward recovery and dignity.
Our Continued Commitment Beyond this specific initiative, the Mounzer Foundation continues to advocate for the protection of human rights, particularly the rights of women to be protected against violence and to have equal status regarding their children’s identity.
